General George Washington, the man who came to epitomise the quest for Freedom and Liberty and went on to become the first President of the United States. We’ve depicted him in the pose he struck when he crossed the Delaware River, just before the Continental Army’s surprise assault on the Hessians the next day at the Battle of Trenton. A great and inspiring leader, Washington was instrumental in being the driving force behind the creation of the fledgling citizen army, the army which eventually pushed the more professional British from their former colonies.
