River Horse Ltd. have managed to gain another great movie licence. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay board game partially crosses the barrier into a tabletop miniature game by including top quality figures of many of the main characters from the movie.
Lifting the lid of the box, it’s the miniatures we see first, tucked inside a clear plastic component tray. These are molded in a quality plastic and come in two colours, white for the leadership in the game and grey for the player character pieces. These are 28mm pieces, sculpted ‘realistically’. Also included are a number of 15mm figures designed to represent units which support the characters during the game. Again, these are offered in either grey or white, representing the different factions.
Also in the tray are a number of dice, 5 x D8, 2 x D10, 2 x D12 and 1 x D6. Alongside these are 13 Character cards, plus 15 Operation, 15 Mission and 14 smaller district cards, all used during the course of play and appropriate to the movie.
Beneath the clear component tray is a black plastic one, which contains the large folding game board. This is a top-quality board, with reinforced areas at the folds. A double-sided punchboard contains the relevant game tokens. Lastly, there is a 23-page A5 rulebook which is very clearly laid out and full of useful examples of play, as well as some great photographic images and artwork
This is a stylish looking board game, with simple but sophisticated looking gameplay and a fair few aspects of use to miniature gamers. Another great looking product from a company which has become expert at creating licenced products.
