Mantic Games have some great miniatures but they also sell a whole host of terrain that can be used with not only their own game systems but also many others. One of their recent releases is the Terrain Crate range, which consists of a number of 28 – 32mm sized science fiction orientated terrain pieces.
The Industrial Zone consists of over 250 plastic pieces that are connected together using the standard connectors Mantic produce. These are modular parts that can be used to construct a number of layouts using just the one box. Ramps, walkways, pipework, machinery and storage containers are all included and the main wall sections come with both damaged and undamaged sections.
The Landing Zone ‘crate’ also has 250 parts, allowing for the rapid construction of a high tech looking landing are for a small spacecraft or similar. Again there are number of the specialist Mantic connectors designed to hold the whole building together. With defence walls and a small control bunker, this is also a modular kit that can be used straight out of the box or combined with other sets to make a larger structure.
The Starship Doors and Starship Scenery sets are designed to be added to any spaceship or futuristic environment to add additional elements to your gaming. There are 20 doors of 5 different designs, which may be placed against walls to create the illusion of a door, used to fill gaps or placed on a 2 or 3D layout. Having added doors, the Starship Scenery set has 26 pieces consisting of futuristic versions of many currently available items, such as laboratory desks, computer screens, storage tanks, shelving, boxes and racks of firearms. These may be used as scenic scatter to block line of sight or as cover.
All of these terrain items are perfect for skirmish gaming, and flexible enough to be dismantled for storage. They may be painted in a range of colours and have plenty of details that may be picked out. They are also good value for money and durable enough to survive some fairly rough handling. A useful range of terrain, and just part of a whole varied collection of different items produced by Mantic Games.
