There’s some great stuff in Studio Miniatures ever-expanding Horror Characters range; we’ve got three of their latest releases to take a look at, all one-piece metal models in 28mm scale.
The Harlequin
With the old fashioned clown outfit, spooky balloon, and maniacally gleeful face, this is a great representation of Bill Skarsgård’s version of Pennywise. While the older folks amongst us may have had our childhoods ruined by Tim Curry’s version of It’s creepy clown, there’s no denying that the new look has slightly scarier vibes. It’s probably the right sculpting choice and it looks like it will be fun to paint.
You could use this model as the impetus for an interesting horror scenario, an unusual inclusion for some kind of steampunk or modern gaming, or just as a painted gift to the horror loving friend in your life.

The Vampyr
Almost 100 years on, Max Schreck’s portrayal of Count Orlok in Nosferatu might be less well known than more modern vampiric bigwigs, but there’s something truly iconic in the look, poses, and movement of this silent movie monster.
This sculpt is a fantastic recreation, capturing all of the elements perfectly – the strong pose, the animated, claw-like fingers, the grotesque head and intense eyes. A really great mini, with just a bit of clean up required to get the finger areas clean of flash.

The Catcher
We’ve saved the best for last! Robert Helpmann’s Child Catcher, from musical fantasy movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is (at least in this reviewer’s memory) an icon of childhood terror.
The model of him is probably the most accurate of the three, ringing his bell, with his net at the ready, that huge hooked nose ready to sniff out children, wherever they may be hiding. There as a casting error/break on the handle of his net but, thanks to the base of it being fixed to the base tab, all we had to do was fill the gap with superglue.
The model is a great little showpiece, and it’s great that Studio Miniatures are picking out more than just the front and centre Horror ‘Icons’ like Frankenstein’s Monster, Freddie, the Wolfman, Michael Myers, Pinhead, and Jason Voorhees (all of which are also available in the range!)
