Nick Ayres, Phil Lewis and Adam Cooper of the Leicester Phat Cats wargames club came to visit us last week. Nick’s 3rd Generation Warfare rules for post-1945 warfare were the reason and we played out a game set during a Cold War Gone Hot scenario in Germany in the 1980’s. The Soviets were trying to push past a British BAOR battle group acting as a blocking force. Needless to say, thanks to some excellent dice rolling and the sacrifice of most of the Recce Company, the Russian advance along the autobahn was halted behind the burning wrecks of the lead vehicles, whilst an armoured thrust through the woods beside the roadway was largely blunted by the actions of a lone Chieftain Mk. 5. More on the rules themselves in a future issue.
As you can see from the attached photos, the terrain and miniatures were superb and formed the basis of one of the participation games we had in our Zone at Salute 2015. Off camera, we had another photo shoot for two upcoming articles, so not only did we have a good time, we also got a lot of work done. Many thanks once again to the Phat Cats for all their efforts and a big thank you to all those clubs, individuals and rules authors who take the time to visit and help us out with figure, article and other support. If you want to become part of the ‘unofficial’ WI team or would just like us to showcase your rules, please get in touch via firstname.lastname@example.org in the first instance.
