The Boxer is an up to date stealth designed Armoured Transport Vehicle with modular capability. A joint venture of Dutch/German origin, the vehicle employs the latest battlefield technology and design thinking to maximise role flexibility and survivability. Examples of the Boxer have seen service with the Bundeswehr in Afghanistan.
The Revell kit of the Boxer is an excellent reproduction of the prototype. It captures the detail of the suspension and road wheels as well as the movable drivers hatch and modular capsule on the vehicle’s rear. All parts are clearly labeled and crisply moulded in dark green plastic. Detail is first class and even includes clear parts for the headlight covers and driver’s windscreen.
I especially like the socket mounting for the radio controlled gun turret which enables it to attach to the main body and rotate. This is clearly a well thought out model which is aimed firmly at the military modeller and that may be an issue for the wargamer. Make no mistake, it’s a beautiful model but the number and complexity of parts plus the fragility of some items doesn’t make it an obvious choice for the game table. It also takes a fair amount of time to put one together.
If you want a Boxer for the game table this may not be the best solution but if you’re looking for a static model in 1/72nd scale look no further.
Pros: Excellent detail and faithful reproduction of the prototype. Ideal as a static model.
Cons: Fragile for gaming, Small fiddly parts and long construction time.
Scope: Modern Warfare.
