It’s 1870 and the American Civil War isn’t over, it has also taken a rather dramatic twist in that the North has laid waste to the South using chemical weapons and the Confederate States have responded by using Necromancy to raise their dead and retaliate!
Artizan Designs’ Grim Prairie Tales (GPT) range takes us into the weird world of Science Fiction Civil War. Adding to previous releases of ‘zombie’ Rebs and Steampunky Yanks, these three new 28mm GPT characters feed into the mythos of this alternative reality – the whim of sculptor Mike Owen.
Mr Hecht is billed as a “Scalp Hunter” whilst El Brujo is a “Native Sorcerer”. The Revenant is an undead Clint Eastwood type and completing the quartet of characters is The Rev, a shotgun toting preacher, who could pretty much pass for any armed civilian from the mid 1800s for the next 100 years or more. (Our master-casting of this figure had a nasty mould line running down his face and body – hopefully the finished version of the figure will not suffer the same fate).
The GPT background is liquid enough for collectors to manipulate it for their own devices, using the models for systems such as The Curse of Dead Man’s Hand or Dracula’s America. (The figures are a little small to fit with Wild West Exodus.) Of course players can also use their own homebrew rules.
It’s always interesting to see where Artizan Designs are going to take their ranges next and Grim Prairie Tales certainly offer great potential and nice sculpts at a decent price – £3.00 each.
