Asset Drop is a monthly subscription service that provides customers with a selection of painting products and advice on how to use them
Each box comes with a guide to the contents in the form of a booklet, this provides information and examples on how to get the best out of the paints and other materials. This is useful not only for that particular month’s materials, but also for future reference. It’s nice and neat to fit in the box, but this does mean the guide’s internal photos are a little small for showing detail.
The actual paints and fluids are protected by plenty of packaging. The selection of paints are from a number of manufacturers and have a range of uses. They are a mix of different acrylic-based mediums, from high pigment paint with a gel base, to fluids designed to add the finishing touches to a project. Companies included: Warcolours, Mission Models, AK Interactive and Warpigs. Some of these companies are well known but others are relatively new to the whole market or largely unknown to European customers. They are all hand picked by Asset Drop to be of the highest possible quality.
The paints and fluids themselves come in either bottles with pipettes, ‘squeeze’ bottles or flip / screw tops. Being acrylic based, they are water soluble, although the Mission Models paints benefit from being used with distilled water (provided) or thinners if being run through an air brush. One of the bottles is empty, to help to build up a collection of specially mixed paints or useful colours of your own. These empty bottles are provided on a regular basis, with a metal ‘agitator’ to ensure that the paint is easier to mix.
These are billed as ‘premium products’ for both new and veteran painters. The level of pigment in the paints seems quite high, which is suggestive of a variety of potential uses and plenty of options. The booklet is excellent, with a chatty style and some helpful hints for those of us who may be ‘brush challenged’. All in all, a useful monthly service with more to offer than just a parcel full of paints.
