Wargames Illustrated Award winning MDF manufacturers Sarissa Precision have added a couple of new items to their ‘Retro Americana 28mm’ range, with this ‘American School Bus’ and ‘Survivors Shack/Cabin’.
If you live in the USA you will recognise the School Bus from your neighbourhood and if you live outside the US you will recognise it from American TV shows and movies. It often takes centre stage in zombie and apocalypse films and that is doubtless the main attraction of this model – as an objective or background piece in those type of games.
Sarissa provide a clear set of instructions, but with 49 parts and a 28 step construction procedure, I wouldn’t recommend this kit for the novice model maker. As is common with many Sarissa kits this set comes with a cardboard ‘skin’ which (when paired with the MDF) provides extra detail and a good ‘bed’ for paint application.
The second new kit in the ‘Retro Americana 28mm’ range is a building that again fits with the zombie/apocalypse vibe, but would work pretty much anywhere and any-when wooden clapper-board houses are seen.
Construction is straight forward, it fits together very nicely, with bonus sections of model timber which are intended to be added to the roof to give the building a run-down/backwoods look. Beneath the debris I’m not entirely sure what material the roof is meant to be made of, but certainly the overall impression is as intended – a survivor’s shack.
The shack has a footprint of 140mm x 130mm and is 85mm high.
The bus retails at £12 and the shack £15.
