North Star Miniatures continue to expand their Rangers of Shadow Deep range, based upon the Osprey Games rules. These latest figures are for the ‘dark side’ of the game, most notably a selection of living and undead denizens.
First up for review is a pack entitled Temple Guardians. This contains two figures in hooded robes, complete with masks. They wield double-handed axes, halberd style, and manage to look both sinister and eminently capable at the same time.
Moving across to the ‘less-alive’ side of things, the Skeletons of Shadow Deep continues the ‘robe and cowl’ motif that traditionally symbolises ne’er do wells or evil. However this time the hood partially conceals the bare skulls but not the skeletal visage of these armed warriors. One wields a vicious looking serrated bladed sword, the other a pair of curved bladed daggers.
The last pack is a single figure, taller than the others, with a skull face but clad in armour. This is a Shadow Knight, a fearsome warrior from bygone days whose rusted, notched blade still has power.
These are very well sculpted figures, and each exudes a level of characterful menace. They represent key opponents from the Rangers of Shadow Deep game but could also feature in any other fantasy tabletop experience.
