Kromlech of Warsaw, Poland offer a range of products designed with science fiction gaming in mind, mostly parts designed to convert figures from other companies. However, they also produce miniatures of their own, including Dwarven warriors with more than a touch of reality.
Although some of the Dvergr (dwarves) wield weapons which have their origin in the realms of science fiction, the whole collection contains elements that modern and ultramodern gamers may recognize. Cast in resin, these figures wear helmets, plate carrying equipment and use weaponry that is akin to that worn by modern special forces, in particular those items used by the US Navy’s DVEGRU/ SEAL Teams.

Some of these ‘heroic scale’ miniatures are armed with custom M4 assault rifles, complete with scopes, suppressors and other add ons. The plate carriers are festooned with pouches and pockets, with the possibility of being worn with or without plates of armour being inserted. Many of the figures wear Night Vision Goggles attached to their ballistic or maritime helmets, in a variety of designs. Most have lightweight backpacks, some with tubes leading from the back, suggesting the use of the Camelbak hydration system. Some of the troops have LAW-like rocket launchers for that extra ‘punch’, whilst every uniform has elbow and kneepads, comms equipment and some personal choices of headgear beyond the helmet.

Yes, these are after all bearded dwarves. Yet a great deal of time and effort has been spent on representing the equipment and weapons of our own modern age. This is the main hook for those looking for something not only different but unique in the marketplace. As ‘sci-fantasy’ miniatures, these work very well. However, as examples of the sculptor’s skill and commitment to detail, these are excellent figures.
