Knuckleduster Miniatures is a company that focuses upon creating and casting figures in a number of figure sizes for only one period, the Old West.
Some could say that this focus upon one period is perhaps not the best of business models. Yet the fact that these are some of the best Old West miniatures on the market negates that viewpoint. If you are going to do one thing, it’s best to do it very, very well.
The process used to create these highly detailed miniatures is an interesting one. Each is made using 3D design software in the form of a render. Once the sculptor is happy, they are then 3D printed on a top end machine, the type most habitually used in the exacting jewelry market. This process has a number of benefits: one, the renders and prints may be re-sized to allow the same figure to be produced at different foot to eye heights. Two, the level of detail that is finally cast is much higher than many which are physical sculpts. And three, the design is easier to refine than with the physical sculpting process, allowing for mistakes in the print or design stage being quicker to rectify.

The miniatures featured here are 28mm from foot to eye, a precise measurement, and have a real sense of character. The proportions are much more realistic than in some other sculpts but they are still fairly robust, with gun barrels and other areas prone to breakage being pretty strong. Don’t like the more ‘true scale’ approach at this size? Then opt for the 32mm versions of the same figures, which may be larger but still have the same attention to detail.
The range continues to grow, with classic characters from history and Hollywood available. Plus there are a number of bystanders and townspeople that can only come in useful for all types of scenarios. A great set of models for use with any rules, if you haven’t checked these out before, take a closer look today.
