Plastic Soldier Company have produced an up-scaled version of one of their plastic kits which was previously only available in 1/100th / 15mm. The British Cromwell Tank box contains enough frames to create three tanks, making it easy to build up a platoon for most rules.
Each frame contains the option to build either a Close Support version of the Cromwell with a 95mm howitzer or a basic Mark IV. There is also a tank commander figure on each frame, allowing for the one tank to be set up as a command vehicle with an open hatch. The option to add a ‘hedge cutter’ attachment for actions in the notorious Bocage country of Normandy is also present.
The kit itself is simple to assemble, without too many overly small parts. The level of detail is good for what is designed to be a wargaming piece, with just enough to show the ‘best’ aspects of the tank and certainly enough to make adding a paint wash worthwhile. The integral wheel and track assembly adds to the ability to get the vehicle finished and onto the table as rapidly as possible.
Another good wargamers’ kit from PSC, one of the experts in producing value for money models in a number of scales. Perhaps one day they will go one step further and offer two 1/56th scale kits in a box for the same price, helping them to carve out another niche in the marketplace.
