Matt Parkes’ Workbench:
May 2012

Over recent months, Matt has been working hard on his new series of painting articles for Wargames Illustrated. His first two articles covered the basics of planning, tools, brushes, and paints. In article three (WI296) he’ll jump straight into his thoughts on painting a unit for wargaming purposes.

In this article Matt will cover such important things as selecting the right basecoat to match with your main colour. You never want it too dark [1], or too light [2], but just right [3 & 4]. Once you’ve chosen the right basecoat, the right highlights as well. Highlights that are too stark can spoil the final look [5], but those that are spot on make everything look great [6].
